About

Pialli/hola/hello, my name is Javier E. Garcia. I hold a Master’s Degree in Social Work with an emphasis on Children and Families and am licensed as an LCSW in the state of California. For the past ten years, I’ve worked with families, children, couples, and individual adults, providing services in English and Spanish, with limited proficiency in Nahuatl. I currently serve as a Clinical Supervisor and the Director of Mental Health for a nonprofit agency in Riverside, California.

My clinical work focuses on eating disorder treatment, trauma recovery, and personality disorders across all clusters. I am a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, certified in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), trained in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)—the gold-standard treatment for OCD, a National Board Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, and have extensive experience with Ego-State Therapy. I am also Certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and a Consultant-In-Training. I can provide a limited number of consultation hours to those seeking certification. My trauma expertise includes single-incident trauma, complex trauma, developmental and pre-verbal trauma, intergenerational and transgenerational trauma, and pervasive traumas such as racism and neocolonialism. I also have experience working within the affirming and inclusive LGBTQ2S+ sector.

I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology, and I integrate this background into my work by bridging Western mental health practices with ancestral and Indigenous healing approaches. I provide workshops on Indigenous cultural practices and have guest lectured at Cal State Los Angeles on the topic of Decolonizing Psychotherapy. I also volunteer with Nahuatl-speaking organizations, offering community workshops on mental health issues impacting the community.

Outside of my professional life, I am married, the proud caretaker of seven schnauzers, and find sacred connection in drumming on the huehuetl and cultivating my milpa, honoring nuestros viejos abuelos. I am also a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT).
